Recently, the “Pediatric Capacity Building Training Program for Panama,” organized by the Ministry of Commerce of China and undertaken by the Hunan Children’s Hospital, successfully concluded in Changsha. Wang Huiwen and Mao Tinghui, two students majoring in Applied Spanish from the School of Western Languages at Hunan College of Foreign Studies (hereinafter referred to as HCFS), served as program assistants. With their professionalism and cross-cultural communication skills, they earned high praise from both Chinese and international participants, demonstrating the remarkable outcomes of HCFS’s efforts in cultivating globally competent talents.

During the 14-day program, Wang Huiwen and Mao Tinghui were fully responsible for providing daily assistance, classroom interpretation, and cultural exchange support for 41 pediatric experts from Panama. Relying on their solid Spanish proficiency and attentive, thoughtful service, they effectively ensured the smooth implementation of the training, serving as a “bridge of friendship” connecting medical experts from China and Panama.

After the training, the Panamanian participants expressed special gratitude to the two students, praising them for “demonstrating the professionalism and enthusiasm of contemporary Chinese youth.” The organizing side, Hunan Children’s Hospital, also commented: “The outstanding performance of HCFS students added a bright touch to this foreign-aid training program.”

This participation in a foreign-aid training program is a typical example of HCFS’s deepening commitment to the “Foreign Language +” talent cultivation model. In recent years, by strengthening the teaching of less-commonly taught languages and actively expanding international practical platforms, the college has established an innovative “3+” talent development system—integrating “Foreign Language + Major,” “Major + Foreign Language,” and “Foreign Language + Foreign Language.” To date, HCFS has provided society with over 50,000 applied skilled professionals with foreign language expertise, and its distinctive vocational and international educational characteristics have become increasingly prominent.

Representatives of Hunan College of Foreign Studies stated that the institution will continue to refine its “compound foreign language talent” cultivation system, empowering more students to contribute the strength of Chinese youth on the global stage.
